U-6 Mini Soccer
Tri-Boro's
mini-soccer program is for 4 and 5 years olds.
Designed to introduce soccer to young children, the emphasis Is on fun -
and not only for the children!
The children play six on a side on small fields at the West Catasauqua playground, twice a week in September and October. In the past, as many as 14 teams have been formed.
Before
the start of the season, Tri-Boro holds special clinics for the U-6 coaches so
they understand the nuances of coaching soccer to very young children.
Not only are many children introduced to the sport of soccer through this
program, but many parents join the soccer coaching ranks.
Below are a list of questions and answers that have been commonly asked throughout the years:
Where and when does the U6 program play?
The U6 program plays at the West Catasauqua Playground off of Pine Street in Whitehall (Google Maps coordinates 40.647291, -75.482426). The games/practices are played on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm and Saturday mornings at 10:30 am. (Note: around the middle of October the Wednesday sessions will be dropped due to lack of daylight.)
When does the season start?
The season starts the Wednesday after Labor Day. For the 2009 season, the start date will be September 9th and run through November 7th.
How will I know who my child’s coach will be?
Rosters are handed out to the coaches two weeks prior to the start of the season. Sometime in the two weeks before the opening date your child’s coach will give you a call to introduce themselves and to provide you with your team’s field assignment for the first session.
What should we bring to each session?
Each player will be required to wear their uniform and shin guards; cleats are recommended but not required. In addition, we suggest bringing a water bottle and, of course, a smile! Furthermore, no jewelry, including earrings, may be worn.
Is there a set structure for each session?
Yes. Each session will consist of a practice and a game. The games will run approximately half and hour. In total, the entire session will run about an hour.
How will I know if a session is cancelled due to the weather?
The director of the program will inform all the coaches of any cancellations by 4:30 pm for Wednesday sessions and 9:00 am for Saturday sessions. Each coach will then contact the players on their team.
What can I do to help out?
Be a coach or an assistant coach! Without coaches the program cannot operate. Remember, the primary purposes of the U6 program are to introduce children to the basics of soccer and to help them to realize that soccer is fun!! Thus, it is not required that coaches have prior coaching experience. Additionally, Tri-Boro offers an hour-long coaching clinic to all U6 coaches prior to the start of the season and has instructional DVD’s that are available upon request.
